Project Type: Change hypervisor, upgrade server hardware and operating systems
Duration: 6-8 weeks
Services Delivered:
Scoping, planning, testing, hardware and software procurement and installation, data migrations, software upgrading, decommissioning old HPE hardware and software, remote/on-site support and stakeholder reporting.
Key Objectives:
On-premise server hardware upgraded, old servers decommissioned, server operating systems updated to Windows 2025, VMware hypervisor replaced with Microsoft Hyper-V, SQL Server upgraded and accounts system migrated. New secure VPN setup to allow secure remote access to archive data for the senior team.

An established and well-respected electrical engineering business specialising in commercial fit outs who has seen continued growth over the last few years, with 40+ users now relying on the companies on-premise and cloud-based IT systems.
3. Project Delivery Challenges
Ensure zero downtime or disruption to the business’s operations during the planned works.
The business relies heavily on its IT systems for project management, finance/payroll, CAD, printing and day to day operational services in a busy and often time sensitive environment.
4. Our Solution
The project objectives included supplying hardware and software from trusted vendors such as HPE and Microsoft with zero downtime during working hours whilst regularly updating stakeholders and the senior team. This included:
Creating a fully functional test environment for the finance and payroll systems
Checking and testing all backup and recovery processes prior to work commencing
Liasing with 3rd party vendors to ensure seamless migrations to their platforms
Configuring and integrating new server hardware/software, network switches and NAS drives alongside existing systems outside of working hours
Carrying out test and live migrations outside working hours
Grouping tasks into phases and introducing planned project buffers for smooth delivery
Logging work in progress and completed tasks
On-site and remote support from our team at all stages of the project
5. The Result
The project was delivered within budget and on time. The result was a modern, high availability and compliant hybrid network that will provide reliable backend computing for the next few years.
This included:
· New HPE ProLiant rack server, network switches and large capacity storage drives
· Migration of archive data to new NAS drive with role-based access via mapped drive
· Windows Server 2025 operating system running across all on-premise servers
· Domain and forest functional levels raised for improved security hardening
· Finance and Payroll system upgraded to run on new Microsoft SQL 2025 Server
· Replacing expensive VMware vSphere hypervisor with Microsoft Hyper-V
· Full virtual server replication to standby Hyper-V host for high availability
· Decommissioning old server hardware/software, network switches and NAS drives
· Refresh of ethernet patch cabling in comms rack
· New secure and compliant VPN for senior team
· Updated backup and recovery process utilising Veeam, Azure and 3rd party products
